Five Nights at Freddy’s is a horror video game that puts you right in the middle of one of the most nerve-wracking night shifts I’ve ever experienced in a game. You play as a night security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, trying to survive five nights in a place that feels normal during the day—but completely wrong once the lights go out.
Your job each night is simple on paper, but honestly, it never feels simple while you’re playing. You sit in a small security office and watch a network of cameras spread across the restaurant, checking on the animatronic characters as they move around the building.
During the day, these animatronics are just cheerful mascots meant to entertain kids. But at night, they feel like something else entirely. They start moving on their own, wandering the halls in ways that feel unnatural and unpredictable. Your goal is to keep track of them and make sure none of them reach your office—because if they do, it’s game over in a way that always catches me off guard, even when I expect it.
What really gets to me is how unpredictable they are. There’s no comfortable pattern you can fully rely on. One moment, everything feels quiet, and the next, one of them has disappeared from the camera feed entirely.
That uncertainty forces you to constantly flip between cameras, trying to piece together where Freddy and the others have gone. Even when nothing is happening, there’s this constant feeling that something could happen at any second. It keeps you tense the whole time, like you can’t ever fully relax.
On top of everything else, there’s the power system—and honestly, that’s what usually breaks me the most.
You only get a limited amount of electricity for the night, and everything you do drains it: checking cameras, turning on lights, and especially closing the security doors. At first, it feels like you have plenty to work with. But as the night drags on, you start hesitating over every single action.
Do I check the hallway one more time? Do I risk closing the door? Or do I just sit in the dark and hope nothing is coming?
When the power finally runs out, everything shuts down, and you’re completely exposed. That moment always feels like the game tightening its grip right before the end. When that happens, you lose your defenses, and the animated robots can easily infiltrate your office.
To survive, you must manage your energy wisely, stay alert, and react quickly to any unusual activity on the cameras. Careful observation and patience are essential if you want to get through all five nights.
Move/Click – The primary control for everything.
Move Camera (Security Camera) – Move the mouse to the bottom of the screen and click the camera button, then click the different camera feeds.
Open/Close Security Camera – Click the camera button on the tablet (on/off).
Turn on Lights (Doors, Hallways) – Click the light buttons on the left/right of your office.
Close Door (FNAF 1) – Click the door buttons on each side of the office.
Check Office View – Move the mouse away from the camera back to the center to return to office view.
Constantly switching cameras will drain the battery quickly. Instead, check them at short intervals. Learn where each animatronic typically starts moving so you don't scan everything blindly.
Energy is your biggest weakness. Turn OFF doors and lights when you don't need them. The more cameras, doors, and lights you use, the faster your power will run out—and once it runs out, you'll be defenseless.
Don't keep doors closed all night. Only close them when a robot approaches your office. Listening and checking your cameras will help you decide when to act.
Footsteps, breathing, or movement often alert you before a robot arrives. Recognizing sounds can save energy and prevent surprise attacks.
In Five Nights at Freddy's, each character moves differently:
Understanding their movement patterns is key to surviving the later nights.
Most players lose near the end of the night when the power goes out. Stay calm, limit camera use, and only react when necessary.
